Professor Liu Juan received her BA degree in Chinese Language and Literature from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Shandong University in 1988. She obtained an MA degree in Chinese Dialectology and Phonetics, also from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Shandong University, in 1991. In 2001, she received her Ph.D. in Language Engineering from the Department of Electronic Engineering of the City University of Hong Kong. She has taught at Shandong University, Nankai University, and, in the United States, at Hope College, the University of Louisville, and George Washington University respectively. In 2013, she returned to join the faculty at her alma mater, Shandong University. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Research Institute of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics at Shandong University. Professor Liu’s primary research interests focus on developing an interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary field combining Experimental Phonetics, Chinese Dialects, Second Language Acquisition, Phonetic Pathology and Cognitive Linguistics.
