Professor Yue Lijing was born in January 1963. In 1980, she matriculated by examination in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Shandong University. After graduating with a BA degree in Literature in 1984, she stayed on as a member of the teaching staff at Shandong University, and has been a faculty member here since that time. In 2003, she was admitted by examination to the Language Research Institute of Beijing Language and Culture University, from which she graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in 2006. In the same year, she entered the School of Foreign Languages of Beijing Normal University for postdoctoral research. She currently holds the rank of Professor at the School of Literature of Shandong University, and also serves as Dissertation Advisor to Ph.D. students at the School of Literature. In addition to her faculty position at Shandong University, Professor Yue also serves as a director of the Chinese Linguistics Association, and a director of the National Association of Chinese Dialectology.
Professor Yue’s primary fields of research are Chinese Dialects and Modern Chinese Grammar. She has published more than 40 papers in academic journals such as Dialects, Language Teaching and Research, Language Science, Studies in the Chinese Language of Ancient Times, Journal of Language Studies, and Wen-Shi-Zhe (A Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy). Professor Yue has also participated in the writing, editing and compiling of many academic publications, including: A Study of Dialects in Shandong, A Gazette of the Dialects of Cangshan, A Reader for the Examination for Putonghua Training, and A Syllabus for a Training Course in Practical Putonghua. She has supervised and participated in more than ten National-, Provincial- and Ministry- level research projects, and has won many prizes and awards for her scholarly accomplishments, includingthe Chinese Ministry of Education’sPrize for Excellence of Achievement in Scientific Research in Chinese Institutes of Higher Education, and the Prize for Outstanding AchievementsintheSocialSciencesinShandongProvince.
