Dr. Cheng Hongbin, a native of the city of Xiangyang, Hubei Province, was born in December 1971. From 1991 to 1995, he pursued baccalaureate studies at the Department of Chinese Language and Literature (now the School of Literature) of Hubei University.After graduating there with a BA degree, he stayed on to work at Hubei University. He then pursued graduate studies in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature (now the School of Literature) of Renmin University of China from 2000 to 2003, and obtained an MA in Literature. In 2005, he enrolled in doctoral studies in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of Beijing University, concentrating in Modern and Contemporary Literature, and received a Ph.D in Literature in 2009. Since July 2009, he has been on the faculty of the School of Literature at Shandong University, where he is currently a Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Literature. The courses that Dr. Cheng offers include: “Modern Chinese Literature”, “Special Topic: Chinese Literature in the Twentieth Century”, “A Study of Chinese Left-wing Literature”, and “20th-Century Chinese Literature and Films”. His primary research fields are modern and contemporary Chinese literary systems, and the intellectual currents in Left-wing literature. Since 2000, he has published more than a dozen papers in academic journals such asMiscellaneous Publications in Modern Chinese Literature, Historical Materials of the New Literature, A Journal of Discourses From Taishan, and Reviews of Works of Fiction.
