Sun Zhimei, (Ph.D.) holds the rank of Professor in the School of Literature at Shandong University. She is a Dissertation Advisor for Ph.D students. She also serves as Director of the Institute of Ancient Chinese Literature Studies, as well as Vice-president of the Association for Modern Chinese Literature Studies andExecutive Vice-president of the Chinese Association of Research on Liu Yazi and the Nanshe (The Southern Literary Society). She is the Editor-in-Chief of The Chinese Forum of Nanshe(The Southern Literary Society)Studiesand President of the Shandong Provincial Association of Modern Literature Studies.
For many years Professor Sun has been engaged in teaching and research in the fields of oftraditional Chinese literature and modern Chinese literature. Monographs authored by Professor Sun include: Qian Qianyi and Literature in the late-Ming and early- Qing Era, Studies of the Nanshe (Southern Literary Society),Selections from the Poetic Works of Qian Qianyi, The Spirit of Ming and Qing Literature, and Scholarship and Literature in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. She has taken part in the Chinese Ministry of Education’s nation-wide project of unified textbook writing and compilation in producing the university textbooks History of Chinese Literature and Selections of Chinese Literary Works Through the Centuries. Professor Sun has undertaken a major textbook project sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education, serving as Editor-in-chief for one of the volumes of “A History of Traditional Chinese Literature.” She has authored more than a hundred scholarly papers and articles published in such diverse academic journals as Literary Review, Our Literary Legacy,Studies in Literature and Art, Buddhist Studies and Wen-Shi-Zhe (A Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy). In addition, Professor Sun has undertaken and completed many social science projects under the aegis of the Central government of China, as well as projects in the humanities and the social science sponsored by the Ministry of Education. She has won many prizes for Excellence in Scholarly Achievements in the Social Sciences awarded by the Social Sciences Federation of Shandong Province, and has been awarded the Prize in the Critique of the Literary Works of Liu Xie given by the Propaganda Department of Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party. At present, she presides over “Compilation and Research of the Documents of the Nanshe(The Southern Literary Society)” -- a major open-bid Research Project in the Social Sciences sponsored by the Central Government.
