On the morning of October 29th, Zhang Rong, the new president of Shandong University (SDU), came to Literature and Journalism School (LJS) to guide the work. The dean of LJS Zheng Chun, the school party secretary Wang Desheng, school leadership team members and teacher representatives attended the symposium. The teacher representatives including Yang Duanzhi who is the leader of Chinese Language and Literature program, distinguished professor He Zhongming who is the young scholar of Qilu, Feng Wei who is the director of the institute of communication studies. Rong Xiaoyan who is the deputy director of the university also attended the symposium.

At first, Zhang Rong said LJS has a hundred years of history and has made a great contribution to the development of SDU. SDU has always been known for literature and history, LJS is the banner. Zhang Rong hoped to improve and strengthen the school work better by this research work. On behalf of LJS, Zheng Chun expressed his sincere welcome to the new president. Then, he briefly introduced the history and the current development situation of LJS. He used the famous saying "I have them when others don't. I have better ones when others have them" to summarize the discipline development plan and the recent important academic promotion. He pointed out that the current achievements depends on the solid foundation laid by senior scholars, and it also benefits from the outstanding achievements of middle-aged and young scholars who are trained and introduced by LJS recent years. Then he put forward the existing problems, deficiencies and future development ideas of the school. He also said, under the key support and guidance of SDU, LJS strives to make further comprehensive strength and will be built into one of the representative schools which have achieved new development goals of SDU. School party secretary Wang Desheng put forward his own point of view on how to support the construction of key disciplines, strengthening characteristic development of the school and other issues. Professors such as Yang Duanzhi, He Zhongming, Feng Wei, vice deans such as Liao Qun, Li Luning, Liu Yuetan, deputy party secretary Zhang Shuai and service director Shen Wen proposed opinions and suggestions respectively on the teaching and scientific research, academic building, treatment of young teachers, international communication, social service etc.

After listening to the speeches, president Zhang Rong concluded that LJS was established at the beginning of the establishment of SDU. In the process of its development, LJS has always maintained a high standard of power, and it also has strong young blood. Zhang Rong extended his appreciations to all the staff of past dynasties of LJS for their efforts. He pointed out that their efforts lays a solid foundation for the glory of LJS. He said that the purpose of the visit is to deeply understand the situation and listen to opinions and suggestions.
