Wen Rumin is currently a Tier 1 Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences at Shandong University, and a Dissertation Advisor for Ph.D students. Meanwhile, Professor Wen is also Director of the Institute of Chinese Language Education of Beijing University, and under contract to the Chinese Ministry of Education as Chief General Editor of all Chinese language textbooks and teaching materials for primary and secondary education.He is also a member of the Ministry of Education’s panel of expert consultants on Basic Education. Previously, Professor Wen had served as Chair of the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Beijing University, and Chief Managing Editor of Beijing University Press. He has also held organizational positions as President of the ChineseAssociation for Studies inModern Literature, Editor of the Studies in Modern Chinese Literatureseries, a member of the Fifth Committee for the Assessment and Evaluation of Academic Disciplines under the aegis of the Academic Degrees Commission of the State Council, Convener of the Ministry of Education’s Experts Panel on the Review and Revision of Academic Standards for Language Studies Curriculum for Mandatory Education. He was also Chief Editor of Chinese Language Textbooks for Upper Middle Schools (The People’s Education Press edition,) and a member of the Review and Assessment Committee of the National Planning Commission in Philosophy and the Social Sciences.
Professor Wen’s primary fields of teaching and research are: Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, Comparative Literature, and LanguageEducation.
Professor Wen has authored and published fourteen scholarly works, including:
· The Evolution of Realism in the New Literature
· The History of Modern Chinese Literary Criticism
· Thirty Years of Modern Chinese Literature, (co-authored)
· Thematic Studies on Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature, (co-authored)
· The Scope of Literary History
· A General Outline of the Essentials of the Academic Discipline and Curriculum in of Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature
· The New Tradition in Modern Literature and Its Contemporary Interpretation
· Wen Rumin on Language Education,(vols. 1-3)
Professor Wen has also compiled and edited twenty publications, including:
· Collected Papers on Comparative Literature
· Advanced Chinese (Chief Editor)
· A Collection of Prefaces and Introductions Written By Wen Rumin
He is also the author of two collections of essays and literary notebooks: ShuxiangWuyuan: The Fragrance of Books at No. 5 Court, andYanyuankunxueji: Pursuing Knowledge and Scholarship Under Difficult Circumstances on Yanjing’s Campus.
In addition, as mentioned above, Professor Wen is Chief Editor of ChineseLanguage textbooks and teaching materials for primary schools and lower middle schools issued and authorized by the Ministry of Education, and the People’s Education Press editionof Chinese language textbooks and teaching materials for upper middle schools.Furthermore, he has authored and published approximately 250 scholarly papers and articles. He has completed sixNational research projects (including one Major Research Project for the National Foundation for the Social Sciences) and he has received seven National or provincial prizes/awards. He is a recipient of special subsidies from the State Council, and has been named a Teacher of National Renown.
