Dr. Fan Qingyan, a native of Juanchengxian, Shandong Province, received his Ph.D in Literature from Shandong University, and was a postdoctoral fellow in Chinese Language and Literature at Fudan University. He is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Literature of Shandong University, and a Dissertation Advisor for Ph.D students in the field of Ancient Chinese Literature. His primary research fields are novels of ancient (traditional) China, and the Literature of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. He serves as an executive director, and general secretary, of the Chinese Association for the Study of Li Qingzhao and Xin Qiji, and Vice President and General Secretary of the Shandong Association for the Study of the Novel Water Margin [Shuihuzhuan]. He has authored and published more than fifty academic papers in core scholarly journals such as Research on Traditional Texts and Documents, Wen-Shi-Zhe (A Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy), and Chinese Classical Texts and Documents and Chinese Culture. Professor Fan participated in the national-levelproject for the compilation of the textbook/teaching materialtitled History of Chinese Literature, with responsibility for editing, organizing, and providing commentary/explanatory notes and annotations for the traditional novels, Tales of the Contemporary World, Journey to the West and The Green Peony. In recent years, he has supervised and completeda number ofresearch projects sponsored by the Ministry of Education and the National Human Resources Department under the Ministry of Education, as well as research projects sponsored by the government of Shandong Province. Professor Fan is currently supervising an on-going research project sponsored by the National Foundation for the Social Sciences, a Humanities and Social Sciences research project sponsored by the Ministry of Education, a research project sponsored by the National Committee of Antiquities Studies in Higher Education,and a fourth project which is sponsored by the Shandong Provincial Program of Social Sciences Development. Professor Fan has won a Level-2 prize and a Level-3 Prize for Outstanding Achievements in the Social Sciences in Shandong Provinceand also a Level-2 prize for Outstanding Achievements in the Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education in Shandong Province.
