Professor BianJiazhen (b. 1965), has a Ph.D in Literature, and holds the ranks of Professor in the School of Literature at Shandong University. He is a Thesis Advisor for MA students as well as a Dissertation Advisor for Ph.D students. His teaching and his research work focus on Chinese literature and culture in the Pre-Qin era and in the Qin, Western Han, and Eastern Han dynasties. He holds boardpositions in academic and scholarly organizations, including serving as a board director of the Chinese Association for the Study of the Classic of Poetry. Professor Bian has undertaken and supervised the completion of many research projects sponsored by the Chinese National Foundation for the Social Sciences and/or by the Shandong Province Foundation for the Social Sciences. He is the author of, among other publications, the following: Canonical Scholarship on the Philosophies of the Classics and Literature in the Han Dynasty, (revised edition, China Federation of Literary and Art Publishing House, 2017);An Overview of Chinese Studies, (QiluShushe Publishers, 2013);The Tradition of Canonical Classical Scholarship and the Shape of Academic Culture in Ancient China; (People's Publishing House, 2010);Historical Studies of the Development of Canonical Classical Scholarship in the Han Dynasty, (Chinese Literature and History Publishing House, 2003);and Annotations and Translations of The Classic of Poetry, (co-authored, DaxiangPress, 1997). He has authored more than sixty scholarly papers and articles that have been published in academic journals such as Literary Review, Wen-Shi-Zhe (A Journal of Literature, History and Philosophy),The Academic Journal of Shandong University, Research on Confucius, Academic Research, and Chinese Culture Studies. Many of these papers have been reprinted, excerpted, or quoted in extensive sections for reintroduction to the reading public through such publications as Studies in Ancient (Traditional) and Modern Chinese Literaturepublished by The People’s University’s Reprints of Newspaper and Periodical Materials, A Digest of Academic Journals in the Liberal Arts from Chinese Colleges and Universities, The Yearbook of Chinese Studies in Aesthetics, andThe Yearbook of Confucian Studies in China. Professor Bian’s scholarly views and interpretations have been cited in the works of other scholars and researchers in China as well as in scholarly works overseas.
